Sisters of Charity of St. Vincent De Paul of New York established the Robert B. Fox Memorial Center in 1987. It is governed by the Sisters of Charity along with the Catholic Charities Executive Director as ex-officio director.

Since its founding it has provided emergency housing in an atmosphere of love and compassion for hundreds of poverty-stricken homeless women and their children, many of whom fled abusive situations. Those served receive not only temporary shelter but also a foundation, sense of spirituality and community that is absent in the city shelter system and is crucial to becoming self sufficient.

Special programs include weekly parenting classes to give mothers tools to break cycles of poverty and neglect. Other services include children’s recreation programs and assistance finding appropriate social services, education, job training and housing resources.
