This social service organization is rooted in work begun by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd in New York City in 1857.  It was incorporated in 1947.

Good Shepherd Services has grown from a provider of residential services for vulnerable young women who could not live at home to a multi-service agency.  It now offers a continuum of neighborhood- based educational, social vocational and family support services for vulnerable children, teens, adults and families.  It offers a diagnostic reception center, supervised independent living program, family reception center and long-term residences.

A leading provider of in-services and professional development training, Good Shepherd Services merged in 1996 with McMahon Services for Children, a child-welfare agency that offers foster boarding home and adoption services.  It assumed contracts for Pius XII Youth and Family Services in 2005.
