Every Thursday starting at 8:30 AM, we have open legal intakes at our offices at 80 Maiden Lane in New York City, where our lawyers and paralegals take on many immigration matters, including family reunification, citizenship, work authorization, status for victims of crime, trafficking, domestic violence, political asylum and defense in the immigration and federal courts. Walk-ins are served on Thursdays only (except holidays). Those seeking services must arrive and sign-in before 8 AM, and are served on a first-come, first-serve basis. Most services are provided free of charge, and in other instances there are small fees ($50-$85), which may be reduced or waived on sliding scale. No one is turned away for inability to pay.

We conduct appointment-based consultations at seven sites in the Lower Hudson Valley: Yonkers, Brewster, Haverstraw, Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Kingston and Monticello. For more information, visit this page or call 212-419-3700.

We operate immigration services hotlines:

  • The New Americans Hotline (1-800-566-7636 for NYS calls; 212-419-3737 for calls from all other states): provides general information in response to naturalization- and immigration-related questions, gives referrals to free and low-cost immigration legal providers, and helps crack down on fraud by taking reports from those victimized by unscrupulous attorneys or notarios. Calls are anonymous and can be answered in over 200 languages.
  • The National Call Center for custodians of unaccompanied immigrant children (1-888-996-3484): sets up appointments for legal orientations for parents and custodians of unaccompanied immigrant children at 15 different locations in the United States, sends out informational packages about the immigration court process and relief from deportation, and provides in-depth telephonic orientations to minors and custodians who cannot attend such orientations in person.
  • The ActionNYC Appointment Scheduling Line (1-800-354-0365): makes appointments for those who live or work in New York City with ActionNYC immigration legal services providers.

Additionally, we provide legal services through specialized programs, including:

  • Large-scale, monthly Community Legal Clinics in the Lower Hudson Valley. For more information call 212-419-3700.
  • Immigration Court Helpdesk: group orientations, individual screenings, and pro se assistance with certain applications for people in removal proceedings at the New York Immigration Court. For more information call 212-419-3700.
  • ActionNYC in Schools: public school-based clinic events through the New York City Department of Education’s network; and
  • Pro Bono Project: Statewide pro bono legal representation-matching and supervision through the first project of its kind in New York, where our legal team trains and mentors volunteer advocates and matches them with immigrant clients on a range of matters.

For more info, visit this page. Information is also available from the New Americans Hotline at 1-800-566-7636 (212-419-3737 for callers from outside of NY State). Available 9am – 8pm EST, Monday – Friday.
