Press Releases

NEW YORK, NY (April 26, 2018) –NYC Council Speaker, Corey Johnson, will join Monsignor Sullivan, Executive Director of Catholic Charities for the NY Archdiocese, Vincent Ignizio, CEO of Catholic Charities of Staten Island, and other Staten Island elected officials on Monday, April 30th at noon for a press conference announcing the launch of Carl’s Recovery Center, a free community resource center located on the grounds of Mount Loretto.  The program will work to bridge the gap between drug addiction and recovery, and ultimately to save lives here in the borough.

The opening comes as the result of a successful partnership between CCSI and local nonprofit organization The Carl V. Bini Memorial Fund; who oversaw what was previously known as Carl’s House.  Working together, the two have taken a stance against the opioid epidemic facing Staten Island and the partnership has led to the acquisition and renaming of Carl’s House to Carl’s Recovery Center.

“We are committed to helping Staten Islanders struggling with addiction,” said Vincent M. Ignizio, Chief Executive Officer of Catholic Charities of Staten Island.  “Carl’s Recovery Center will be open to the community free of charge and provide information and referral resources to those who are seeking help.”

The Recovery Center will offer peer-to-peer counseling, rehab placement, interventions, and NARCAN training, in addition to hosting meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Heroin Anonymous and Family Group Sessions.  It will also focus on helping people stay the path after completing rehab or outpatient programs.

“Carl’s House helped thousands of addicts and their families over the last two years,” said Marco DiDonna, Founder of Carl’s House. “But now under the leadership of Catholic Charities of Staten Island, Carl’s Recovery Center will not only be able to offer more services, but also reach more people affected by the disease of addiction.”

Other confirmed guests include Staten Island Borough President James Oddo, Councilman Joseph Borelli, Councilman Steven Matteo, Assemblyman Ron Castorina, Marco Di Donna, founder of Carl’s House and current Program Director of Carl’s Recovery Center.

Those in need of substance abuse services can contact Carl’s Recovery Center at (718) 412-1851 – option 1.
