Go Team Catholic Charities NY!

Team Catholic Charities NY runners are not only taking on the TCS NYC Marathon, considered the most important marathon in the world. They’re also raising funds to help Catholic Charities provide crucial help and hope for New Yorkers in need.

What motivates these hard chargers and how do they plan to accomplish such big goals?

During these training months as they work up to the big day, November 6, 2016, we’ll introduce you to each of them one at a time.

Today, let’s meet Laura Betros:

By Laura Betros

Getting ready to run the NYC Marathon yet I actually just started getting into running about 3 years ago. I found that it was what worked best for me to stay active, and ever since I've been enjoying setting and reaching new goals that I never thought I would achieve.

I am very excited to be running with Team Catholic Charities for my second marathon. All donations to my fundraising account will be going to Astor Services, an affiliate of Catholic Charities that I have known of for years. I want to be able to help a cause that I know is directly impacting people's lives

Astor Services for Children & Families is a community based, non-profit organization that provides children’s mental health services, child welfare services, and early childhood development programs. Astor serves children and families in New York State’s Mid-Hudson Valley region and the Bronx.

Given that Astor Services is in my home community where I see many struggling, I want to bring positivity into their lives and into the community as a whole. It is extraordinary the focus that the foundation has on the development of children who may not have all the resources, love and support they need, which is why I am thrilled to be a part of this team.
