Balancing Fun, Fitness & Support for Those We Serve

Welcome to today’s update from Team Catholic Charities NY, our team running the 26-mile 2016 TCS New York City Marathon, the largest marathon in the greatest city ever!  Each team mate has their own reasons for running. Each finds their own balance between fun, fitness and, most important, raising funds for those we serve at Catholic Charities. Let’s learn what’s powering Christopher Williams’ run now.

By Christopher Williams

I am a life-long New Yorker currently residing in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I work for the City of New York in the Office of Management and Budget and am pursuing a master’s degree in public administration part-time at CUNY Baruch College’s School of Public Affairs. Growing up in the suburbs on Long Island, I have wanted to run the New York City Marathon ever since I got into running competitively as a member of my high school's track team.

I recently completed my first marathon with a 3:30:15 finish at the Long Island Marathon and am hoping to improve my time substantially this November. Given the difficulty I had with staying injury-free during the most recent training cycle, I will be spending a significant amount of my training time between now and the race focusing on strength and conditioning.

Few organizations are as committed to helping New Yorkers in need as Catholic Charities. As an active volunteer with two Catholic Charities member organizations, the New International Center and Franciscans Deliver, I am honored to be running the 2016 TCS New York City Marathon on behalf of Team Catholic Charities NY.

Last year our runners raised over $69,846 and hope to top that this year.
