Telethon Reveals Inside Scoop on ICE Raids

Immigrants housed across the nation and hailing from across the world pounced on the opportunity to speak for free with immigration attorneys during our special two-day Phone Bank Event last week, Feb. 4 and Feb. 5.  The sound of ringing phones and attorneys, volunteers and immigration hotline staff answering in multiple languages filled our Catholic Charities immigration office at 80 Maiden Lane last week.  All told, more than 600 calls were answered on concerns as frightening as ICE raids and as concerning as deportations.  Most callers were born in Central and South America while some came from Europe and Africa as well.

Catholic Charities in partnership with the New York Immigration Coalition, Univision, El Diario and Radio WADO sponsored and manned the telethon in response to fears sparked throughout the immigration community after the Department of Homeland Security announced stepped up deportations.

Worried about raids and missed the telethon? We’re still here.
