Superheroes Throw Best Christmas Party for Bronx Children

Thank You, Black Panther, Wonder Woman and All Our Catholic Charities Superheroes

Superheroes along with generous donors and devoted staff are swooping down to work their magic, gifting toys, books and warm clothes to make sure New York children in need feel the love this Christmas.

A standout among Catholic Charities parties and gift giveaways staged throughout our New York archdiocese was the Superhero Holiday celebration held on December 19th by our Home Base eviction prevention office in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the Bronx.  Here Black Panther and Wonder Woman celebrated with more than 1,200 parents and children.  That’s right.  One thousand two hundred!  And more than 800 children received gifts, had their faces painted, danced to a DJ’s greatest hits and snacked on cotton candy, popcorn and more.

Need in this neighborhood is so great that lines to enter the party literally went around the block.  Event supporters including Catholic Charities NY staff, NY State Senator Jamaal Bailey, members of the New York Fire Department and our partnering organization, WellCare joined the party as well.

“A huge thank you to all,” says Catholic Charities Home Base Program Director Larissa Reyes.

And merry Christmas to all!

Catholic Charities is responding to the needs of our neighbors during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
