Perfect Merger: Catholic Charities Consolidates to Expand Upstate Services

Adds Opioid Response & More to Ulster County Roster

The new name is a mouthful, Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan and Ulster. Huge, also, are the expanded roster of services the freshly merged Catholic Charities of Orange and Sullivan (counties) adds to services provided by the former Catholic Charities Community Services of Ulster.  Most important, say those who helped plan the merger, is expansion of a rapid opioid response team to rural Ulster County’s hard-to-reach neighborhoods where addicts continues to multiply.

Msgr. Kevin Sullivan, CEO, Catholic Charities of The Archdiocese of New York, says the expansion brings “new programs into Ulster County, especially the opioid response team.”

This team helps access treatment and referrals for those suffering from the disease of addiction. Services include community-based treatment, telemedicine, and medication-assisted treatment.

Catholic Charities of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster serve the homeless, the hungry, the emotionally and physically handicapped, immigrants, and the marginalized and vulnerable of Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster Counties. Catholic Charities collaborates with parishes, Catholic, and non-Catholic partners alike to help people of all religions who are in need.

Other key programs include:

  • full-service, client-choice food pantry
  • specialized kids’ pantry for diapers, formulas, and other essentials for pregnant women and families with young children
  • comprehensive case management services
  • immigration assistance
  • year-round CYO programming for youth and families in a fully-equipped gym

The renovated St. Peter’s School at 6 Adams Street, Kingston, will continue to serve as a multi-purpose community center and base of operations for Catholic Charities in Ulster County. Meanwhile, those living in Orange and Sullivan counties can continue to access services locally at 27 Matthews St. in Goshen, New York.

“Expanding services in Ulster County is part of the ongoing strategy of Catholic Charities to localize services throughout the ten counties of the Archdiocese,” Msgr. Sullivan added.
