Special Shout Out for Team Catholic Charities

Joe Zenkus

By Angela Veliky

Let’s take a quick look back – then sprint ahead as Team Catholic Charities races to the 2016 NYC Marathon.

While our 2016 Team Catholic Charities NY members are busy training and fundraising for the largest and most highly-coveted marathon, the TCS New York City Marathon, we thought we would take a walk, or run, back to 2013 for a special “Throw Back Thursday” post

Let’s take a look at our 2013 team:

Our 2013 team was a memorable one, with our runners raising over $26,000 for our St. Nicholas Project. We had runners who wanted to commemorate the memories of those lost and affected by Hurricane Sandy and the terror attack on the Boston Marathon, a husband and wife team running with us who came all the way from the Philippines and a Catholic priest to name a few.

First-time marathon runner Joe Zenkus came in first for Team Catholic Charities, crossing all five boroughs from Staten Island to Manhattan in just three hours and 38 minutes. He was followed by Jason Hamed, Ed Gallagher, Fr. Joseph Tyrrell, Thomas Carney, Julie Palombo, Jerome Prostasio and Ma Teresa Prostasio.
