Catholic Charities Is Here for You

By Alice Kenny

No one should have to decide whether pay the rent or feed their family. Yet, hard as it is to believe in such a wealthy state, nearly one out of every five New Yorkers faces the pangs of hunger every day.

To overcome this reality, Catholic Charities partners with parish and community programs each year to serve up 6.5 million free nutritious meals. Those we serve range from children to, working men, elderly grandparents, veterans and the disabled.

Together we offer:

1.      Food Pantries

Our emergency food programs provide free food, helping families stretch budgets when their incomes fall short of their nutritional needs.

2.      Soup Kitchens

We serve free, warm, prepared meals to the hungry – and offer meals to the homebound as well.

3.      Help applying for SNAP/Food Stamps

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), also known as food stamps, helps the hungry buy groceries.
