Ms. Heppes presents donation to Catholic Charities Orange County Executive Director Dr. Dean Scher and Board President Susan Murray Tetz

Goshen, the quaint upstate village known for harness racing and antique homes, chalked up another distinction this holiday season, a generous $1,000 gift to Catholic Charities gathered one dollar at a time.

This true Christmas story begins with a holiday house tour, the first in Goshen in the past decade, hosted as a fundraiser for Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange County. Eight homeowners opened their houses decked out in holiday cheer for ticketed tours that raised more than $16,000 for Catholic Charities.

Then one of the homeowners, the Heppes family, upped the ante. They took on the “Generosity Challenge” to dare friends and family to donate as little as $5, or as much as they want, to support Catholic Charities. All told, more than 170 people participated, earning $1,000 to help Catholic Charities now, during this holiday season when those we serve need it most.

“I am so grateful,” says Deborah Heppes. “The staff and programs at Catholic Charities are dedicated to making a positive difference in the lives of the most needy among us; by working together to raise $1,000 for Catholic Charities we’re able to help them change the lives of others.”

Catholic Charities is responding to the needs of our neighbors during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
