Children of parents with AIDS tore open gifts, had their faces painted green and red and dined on holiday goodies last week thanks to a partnership between Catholic Charities and Children of Parents with AIDS, Inc.

To make the celebration special, Catholic Charities Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Center in Harlem transformed into a Christmas wonderland with tables overflowing with board games, stuffed animals, toys and more.

And Santa made a special appearance, accompanied by staff and volunteers donning red elf caps and reindeer antlers.

Catholic Charities service to those with AIDS stretches back decades to a time when others feared the diagnosis and treated the stricken as pariahs.

Recognizing Catholic Charities exemplary work, Children of Parents with AIDS, Inc. presented us with a Certificate of Appreciation during the holiday party.

It’s message says it all:

In recognition of your generous gifts and for sharing our commitment in providing hope and empowerment for disadvantaged families/children; and joining us in bringing light to many during this holiday season.
