In a week dominated by downpours, morning fog lifted just in time for tee-off  at the 32nd Annual Cardinal’s Open held May 14th at the Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck.

“It was an amazing day with such a good feeling in the air, a tremendous success in so many ways,” says Catholic Charities NY Development Director Elsie Pallotta.

The Cardinal’s Open raised $780,000 - more funds than this event raised ever before - to support the work and mission of Catholic Charities.

Golfers and friends, 250 all told, also dined at huge buffets of brunch, lunch and dinner.  And they outbid one another later that night at a live auction to raise funds.   The auction included sought-after seats at exclusive Rao’s restaurant in New York City and Jets/Patriots tickets.  But perhaps the most valued item was the 1992 magnum of wine made by Rusty Staub, a key supporter of Catholic Charities until his death less than two months ago.

The day’s success was thanks to a team effort, Ms. Pallotta adds.  “Hats off to the Cardinal’s Committee for Charity for sponsoring the event and to the Golf Committee members who worked tirelessly to make it an immensely successful day.”

The Cardinal’s Committee for Charity is a giving society composed of generous donors who, since the height of the Great Depression, has remained constant in their support of Catholic Charities and its mission to Protect and Nurture Children, Strengthen Families and Resolve Crises, Feed the Hungry and Shelter the Homeless, Support the Physically and Emotionally Challenged and Welcome and Integrate New Americans.
