Cardinal’s Committee for Charity Rings Wall Street Opening Bell

Meets Stacey Cunningham; First Woman to Lead NY Stock Exchange

L-R:  James K. Donaghy, Executive Chairman of the Board, Structure Tone Organization; Stephen Squeri, Chief Executive Officer, American Express (and Speaker at the breakfast); Cardinal Dolan; Frank La Salla, Chief Executive Officer of Issuer Services, BNY Mellon; Robert Garrett,  New York Office Managing Partner, KPMG LLP; Stacey Cunningham, New York Stock Exchange President; Archbishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama of Jos, Nigeria

Surrounded by trading kiosks, media stations and news headlines parading across the walls, Cardinals Committee for Charity members and their guests joined Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Msgr. Kevin Sullivan on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange on Monday, June 18th.  The group, honored by Cardinal Dolan for their generosity supporting the work of Catholic Charities NY, had just finished breakfast in the stock exchange board room and then – BOOM – ringing the Opening Bell.

The experience was like entering an operating room; no show-and-tell but the real deal as traders got down to business and reporters detailed the news.

This special – and now annual -event happened thanks to Catholic Charities’ long relationship with the NY Stock Exchange.  Former NYSE Chair John J. Phelan, Jr. served as Catholic Charities’ first lay Board Chair.  Former NYSE President, Catherine R. Kinney, serves as Catholic Charities NY’s current board president. And Charities NY Trustee Thomas W. Farley served as NYSE President until the current historic leadership of Stacey Cunningham, the first woman to lead the New York Stock Exchange.  Ms. Cunningham co hosted the event with Cardinal Dolan.

The annual Wall Street Breakfast and Ringing of the Opening Bell stands among the lively events Cardinal Dolan hosts to thank Cardinals Committee for Charity members, a giving society that, since the height of the Great depression, has remained constant in their support of Catholic Charities NY’s mission to help New Yorkers in need.
