Breaking News: Bank of America Donates 20K to Help Us Feed the Hungry

Great news!  Bank of America Charitable Foundation just awarded Catholic Charities $20,000 to help us buy food, encourage self sufficiency and feed the hungry through our Feeding Our Neighbors program.

“We are excited to partner in advancing the mission of Catholic Charities,” said Bank of America’s Community Relations Manager Nereida Andino when she announced the grant.

This is a big help for a huge problem – with outrageous numbers that document the need:

  • Nearly one out of two New Yorkers lives in or dangerously near poverty.
  • Poverty, the principal cause of hunger, leaves New York’s emergency food providers overwhelmed by need.
  • Inflated food prices compound this need, burdening strained budgets and reducing the value of food stamps.
  • 1.4 million New Yorkers have insecure access to food.
  • This includes 1 in 4 children!  And 1 in 10 seniors!

Catholic Charities is fighting back with our Feeding Our Neighbors program.  This provides approximately 3.6 million meals to more than 150,000 people.

How do we do it?

  • Our small professional staff partners with more than 200 volunteers
  • Feeding Our Neighbors encompasses 41 emergency food programs.
  • We have pantries, soup kitchens and a mobile pantry in Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island plus seven counties in the Hudson Valley.
  • Each site is unique in the type of food it distributes, the days and hours it operates and the numbers it reaches to best meet the needs of those we serve.

A big thank you to Bank of America Charitable Foundation as together we work to feed our hungry neighbors!
