Sr. Supervisor Social Worker

Summary: The Supervisor Social Worker provides supervision to Site Supervisors and sees to it that all activities within the Case Management Department serve to uphold the highest standards of mission adherence and service excellence. The Supervisor is responsible for the oversight of operational, budgetary, contract and grant related activities, staff hiring and retention. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

1. Provides direct Casework Supervision to Supervisors and oversees all aspects of service delivery. 

2. Manages the operations of the front desk and the Catholic Charities Helpline including close collaboration with the Preserving Housing Department. 

3. Supervises Social Work interns and fulfills requirements as set forth by the university. 

4. Serves as a go-to person for handling (either directly or through close supervision) challenging, complex, high profile and high risk cases. 

5. Distributes/assigns cases that enter the system through a variety of sources. 

6. Communicates and reinforces the Catholic Charities Case Management model within the Department. 

7. Ensures that staff upholds the mission of the agency from the initial phone inquiry, in-person greeting and through the final follow-up call. 

8. Renders decisions about requests for financial assistance and exercises stewardship in managing the overall relief budget. 

9. Reinforces a philosophy of collaboration with community partners, Catholic Charities departments, Divisions and affiliate agencies relative to the Case Management Department. 

10. Ensures that staff meets contract and/or department deliverables by developing a system to regularly monitor Data Management systems. 

11. Understands, fulfills and meets deadlines on all operational matters including requests for financial assistance, time sheets, performance reviews etc. 

12. Provides weekly supervision and maintains an “open door” supervision policy. 

13. On boards new employees by adopting a “hands on” approach to training that is responsive to the unique learning needs of the staff person. 

14. Effectively communicates with the COS Division Director on all aspects relevant to the successful execution of operational tasks, high profile cases, and the advancement of the overall mission and vision of the department/agency. 

15. Attends, participates and helps organize in-service trainings; chairs monthly department staff meetings and ensures that staff is prepared for discussion and case conference. 

16. Creatively shapes the direction of the department by offering, supervising, or delivering innovative programs and services while maintaining the integrity of day to day work practices. 

17. Manages a small caseload and fulfills all requirements associated with handling cases. 


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally 9:00AM to 5:00PM Monday - Friday. Additional hours may be required to meet program deadlines, or client needs. 

Working conditions and physical demands required

The demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 

  • Travel with staff to client visits and staff meetings 20% of the time using reliable transportation, traversing streets, ascending/descending stairs, and exposed to outside weather conditions. 
  •  Assess and work in varied home environmental conditions, possibly including vermin/bedbugs. 
  •  Traverse neighborhoods that may require a high level of alertness and awareness of surroundings. 
  •  Interact with clients who require consistent and comprehensive support, some under potentially stressful conditions. 
  •  Remain in a stationary position at a work station and use a computer approximately 60% of the time. 
  •  Frequently sit for long periods attending meetings. 


Education and/or experience required: 

  1. Master’s degree in Social Work required with at least five years of experience in the social services field. 
  2. Bilingual of a relevant language a plus. 


Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required: 

  1.  LCSW or LMSW and SIFI Certified or eligible. 
  2. Excellent interpersonal, organizational and time-management skills. 
  3. Possesses a comprehensive knowledge of the social service resource network including the capacity to comprehend the nuances and changing policies and procedures associated with complex systems. 
  4. Knowledge of trauma informed practices particularly in working with Immigrant youth. 
  5. The ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
