Martial Arts Intstructor

Reports to: After-School Program Director 

Supervisory Responsibilities: No

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  1. Develop and implement a Martial Arts curriculum for elementary aged children. 
  2. Implement a quarterly martial arts belt/progression ceremony for the participants. 
  3. Organize activities related to Martial Arts & recreation. 
  4. Organize an annual tournament, participating in local & citywide tournaments. 
  5. Organize Martial Arts clinics. 
  6. Escort participants to sports-related events as they arise. 
  7. Monitor and keep an inventory of all equipment/supplies. 
  8. Attend all weekly staff meetings. 
  9. Submit weekly reports on a timely basis. 
  10. Inform Program Director of changes or any irregularities. 


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a part-time position. Days and hours are generally Mondays from 3:00pm-6:00pm and Tuesday through Friday from 3:30pm to 6:00pm, Additional hours may be required to attend special events or meet program deadlines.

  • Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behavior, particularly in group settings. 
  • Remain in a stationary position while monitoring activities. 
  • Move for long periods, providing instruction. 
  • Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traverse city streets, ascend/descend stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions, while escorting youth. 


Education and/or experience required: 

  • High School Diploma or GED, working towards AA or BA degree. 
  • Minimum attainment of a Black Belt Degree in a particular style with strong knowledge of Martial Arts 
  • Experience teaching and organizing tournaments and working with youth. 

Skills, Licenses, and/or competencies required: 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
